The course Fari tutored was Spectroscopy, an advanced undergraduate course which involved H NMR, C NMR and IR. I am a Columbia University graduate in Biology. I failed General Chemistry the first time I took it in college because the material was difficult for me to comprehend and was not as easy to grasp like the way it was in high school. Dr. Firooznia helped me to understand the concepts of Chemistry in different ways by being attentive and explaining things by using real-life situations. He really cared about my work because he was always going out of his way to make sure that not only did I understand the material, but that I was fully prepared at tackling difficult questions on practice exams. He made sure to wish me good luck and ask how my exams went. He genuinely made me feel like I can be comfortable asking him about any questions that I have even if I have to ask more than once to fully understand a concept. He was always available and even checked his emails frequently in case I have any last-minute exam or homework questions. He was patient with answering all my questions and spent hours going over material with me again to review and make sure that I fully understood everything that he had taught me. After having re-taken General Chemistry, I managed to pass with flying colors with a B+ thanks to Dr. Firooznia's help! I even moved on to taking the second version of General Chemistry 2 and did extremely well! I was amazed to see my results go from having an F to earning great results such as that B+! My experience with Fari has been extremely helpful. From the day I was introduced to him to our most recent session, Fari has been attentive and consistent. He is comfortable to be around so I do not hesitate to ask him any question, no matter how small. The way he explains the material that my teacher has already tried drilling into my brain makes me feel like its completely fresh information. At our first lesson, Fari could tell that I am not an abstract leaner, therefore from then on he used metaphors that make sense and helps me visualize what is going on. Now, when I do the work on my own, I apply these metaphors and explanations and everything clicks. Fari makes sure to contact me and wish me luck on my exams, reminding my that if I ever have a quick question (even at 10:30pm) he is available to video conference with me and walk me through the problems. Without Fari, I would have failed chemistry this year. He truly guided me through a subject that I was having serious problems in. Fari used real life situations to explain concepts and subjects that made no sense on paper to me. I was able to make the connection of what I was seeing in the textbook to what was actually happening in real life. That connection made it possible for me to absorb this knowledge and not just forget it as soon as the test was over. He was calm, and patient even though we had to go over many topics numerous times for me to understand. I was comfortable and I never felt hesitant to ask him questions, even ones that I felt I could never ask in the classroom setting. The fact that Fari is proficient in math and chemistry really aided me in this subject because he could help me understand the mathematical side (which I am generally weak in) and the true chemistry explanations. The best part of having Fari was that he had a mastery of all the courses he teaches so he could explain the same subject numerous ways until it clicked for me. He adapted his teaching so I could follow each step, and that was the biggest difference between Fari and being in the classroom. In the spring semester of 2012 I was struggling with Organic Chemistry from the start of the course, and, for the first time, feared that I might have to drop the course and repeat it. I had gone to my professor for help several times, but to no avail. While searching for tutors online, I found Fari's website. I began regular tutoring with Fari after receiving a very unsatisfactory score on my first Organic Chem exam. I only wish that I had started tutoring with him from the start of the semester, as he was able to clarify so many of the concepts that I did not comprehend.
